The course featured instruction in safety and tactics in the use of less-lethal chemical munitions (fired and sprayed), fired munitions, and flash bangs. The course first focused on chemical munitions. After discussing the features of various chemical sprays on the market, fired and thrown chemical munitions were then reviewed. Aiming to get the chemicals in the eyes, nose, and mouth of the targeted subject were emphasized in getting the desired effect. Students fired the CTS 40mm Revolving Pump Launcher and the single shot 37mm launcher. All students had to be exposed to the chemicals in order to experience the effects they would have on subjects. The second day of the course began with exposure to a wide variety of types of impact munitions. Issues discussed were the area of the body where impact munitions should be targeted, with distinctions made according to the type of projectile being used. The most effective launchers for various types of projectiles were also discussed. Principles of aiming launchers for various types of projectiles were also addressed. Flash bangs were next on the course agenda. Flash bangs are grenade-shaped devices that produce a bright light and loud sound that disorients and distracts a subject. A written test and practical examination were conducted after completion of each section of the course. Students received an instructor certification.
