The Crime Victim Services Commission is a Michigan State agency responsible for overseeing a range of services and funding for Michigan’s crime victims. The significant accomplishments of the Commission for fiscal year 2004 are described and include the Michigan Crime Victims Notification Network, the 7th annual Michigan Victim Assistance Academy, and the 2-day training on evaluation skills for victim service agency workers. During the 2004 fiscal year, the crime victims compensation program paid $3.27 million in direct financial assistance to crime victims, bringing the total amount of compensation awards paid out during the 27 years of the program to $55.7 million. All programs of the Commission are fully supported by criminal assessment or fines, which are paid by criminal defendants in State and Federal courts. The report also describes the history of authorization for crime victim services and then presents information on the characteristics of crime victims in fiscal year 2004, as well as the characteristics of crimes committed against them.
