Abstract
Certain police firearms trends are definitely emerging and the industry is on top of it. This article describes some of these trends found at the SHOT Show (firearms trade show). The article describes trends in pistols, long guns (rifles), and tactical lights. In regards to the pistol, one clear trend is towards the Double-Action Only (DAO) pistol. The many manufacturers of long guns or patrol rifles promise to enhance accuracy with no loss of reliability. Lastly, one of the strongest trends in United States police weaponry is equipping police officers with flashlights that mount on their sidearms or a weapon mounted light. In addition, flashlights have incorporated laser aiming modules, as well as advances in the area of LED. These trends are seen as driven by real-world tactical needs and the demands of police departments with more attention given to durability, practicality, and defensibility in court.
