During 2004, the demand for NCMEC services increased as NCMEC assisted with 81,787 missing-child cases, up from 72,259 cases in 2003. Additionally, reports of child sexual exploitation to the NCMEC's cyber tip line increased 36 percent during the past year. The focus of 2004 was on this increased demand for services however, a number of key program areas were identified for expansion during 2005, including the External Affairs department which acts as a liaison with key agencies in the Federal Government. NCMEC recently implemented a secure system that will allow AMBER Alerts to be redistributed to secondary markets, such as online service providers and wireless communications providers. After reviewing the accomplishments of the NCMEC during the past 20 years, descriptions are offered of NCMEC's case management strategy and their recovery and investigation services. NCMEC's Child Victim Identification Program (CVIP) is reviewed, as are the training programs for law enforcement agencies that are offered at NCMEC's training facilities throughout the United States. The prevention programs and the victim and family assistance programs of the NCMEC are similarly reviewed.
