Abstract: |
The Resource Sites component of the project was established to document lessons from communities around the country who have demonstrated that they can manage sex offenders and increase public safety through collaborations between criminal justice and health system agencies. The primary objectives of the Resource Sites initiative are to support and document the development and enhancement of existing sex offender management practices in each site and to build the capacity of each site to serve as a resource to other jurisdictions as they begin to implement or refine their own approaches to sex offender management. Recognizing the different approaches to sex offender management across the country, the CSOM project selected sites that were demographically and geographically diverse. This included several tribal communities of varying population size that were developing culturally specific approaches to sex offender management. The case studies involved 11 local resource sites and 3 tribal sites. Additional resource sites described are the National Institute for the Study, Prevention, and Treatment of Sexual Trauma at Johns Hopkins University and the Wisconsin Sex Offender Treatment Network. The case studies generally consist of sites' depictions of their current practices, challenges, and goals for the future.
