Abstract
Under resolution 2004/32, entitled “Implementation of technical assistance projects in Africa by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime,” the Economic and Social Council welcomed the efforts of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to improve the implementation of its projects in Africa geared to Africa’s becoming a significant zone of transit, trafficking, and abuse of drugs and trafficking in firearms and human beings. Technical assistance would involve the discussion of ways of reducing impediments to economic growth and sustainable development caused by widespread criminality, ensuring that appropriate responses to drug and crime issues would be incorporated as core elements within development assistance policies and explore ways of maximizing existing resources. This paper details the technical assistance to projects in Africa by the UNODC and the priority that member states agree to the challenges confronting the African continent.
