The first guideline suggests that the chief law enforcement executive conduct an assessment of the department's cultural awareness condition. This includes a determination of the department's current policies regarding cultural diversity in the community and the department itself, a review of current training in cultural awareness, and an assessment of complaints against the department related to interaction with minorities. The second guideline recommends that the department's chief executive consider the need for training survivors in the techniques of managing and supervising a diverse workforce. The third guideline suggests that the executive appoint an agency cultural awareness facilitator, who would be responsible for monitoring cultural awareness training needs. The fourth guideline indicates that the cultural awareness facilitator should receive instruction in cultural awareness training procedures. The fifth guideline recommends that the executive assess the need for additional cultural awareness training for agency officers. Remaining guidelines are that a training plan be developed for the department, that consideration be given to various types of training delivery levels, and that an evaluation be designed for the training plan.
