This manual presents a training course for California Peace Officers on arrest and firearms performance guidelines and requirements.
Abstract
The interactive multimedia program assembled in this training course directly relates to the Peace Officer performance objectives outlined by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The requirements for officer training are specified in California Penal Code Section 832; this particular training program focuses on the arrest and firearms training requirements. The student materials are divided into two sections: one on arrest and the second on firearms. An interactive videodisc (IVD) (not included) contains both the arrest and the firearms courses. The training course is comprised of 10 modules, each of which contains a series of lessons and a quiz. Modules include lessons on professional orientation, the justice system, laws of evidence, communications, and investigations, among others. The quizzes are modeled after the POST examination. The requirements state that students must complete the training program, demonstrate arrest technique skills, pass the POST arrest examination, and completed a course for the firearms portion. Students can proceed at their own pace or join a group instruction. Exhibits, glossary
