Part 1 details the exciting developments experienced by the Australian Institute of Criminology during 2004-2005. One of the most significant accomplishments during 2004-2005 was the creation of the Crime Reduction and Review Program, which works with crime prevention and justice agencies to ensure policies and programs are evidence-driven. Other developments include continued improvements on the Chief Executive Instructions, policy development on the intranet, a new information technology system, and updates to related security systems. The report includes an overview of the Institute, including a description of its national research priorities, external and internal governance, and performance outcomes. Performance outcomes include policy advice, publications, and library and information services. Plans for 2005-2006 include the investigation of office space options since the Institute’s lease will expire at the end of 2006. The Institute will also continue to pursue its goals of timely, policy-relevant research and dissemination of research findings to policymakers and practitioners. Part 2 details the 2004-2005 activities of the Criminology Research Council (CRC), which has a primary goal of supporting research relevant to current and future public policy issues and to improving the quality of criminological research. CRC considered 36 grant applications during 2004-2005; summaries of 7 of the approved grants are presented, followed by summaries of 6 completed research projects and a description of the work produced by the CRC’s research fellow. Research in progress with CRC funds include studies on pathways to early crime prevention, risk factors and treatment outcomes for intra-familial adolescent sex offenders, and the prevention of cyberstalking.
