This report presents Hawaii's Uniform Crime Reports (police statistics on index crimes) for 2004.
Abstract
Hawaii's index crime rate decreased 8.5 percent from 2003. A total of 63,665 Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) index crimes were reported statewide in 2004, which is a rate of 5,041.4 offenses per 100,000 resident population. The UCR violent index crime rate decreased 4.1 percent from 2003, and the reported property index crime rate decreased 8.7 percent. Reported forcible rapes and robberies decreased 2.0 percent and 17.9 percent, respectively, while murder and aggravated assault increased 49.4 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively. For reported property crimes, burglary decreased 6.4 percent, larceny-theft by 8.8 percent, and motor vehicle theft by 11.0 percent. Hawaii's total index crime rate has decreased 30.4 percent since 1995; the property index crime rate has declined 31.1 percent; and the violent index crime rate has declined 12.8 percent. In 2004, the number of statewide index crime arrests decreased 8.6 percent, with arrests for violent index crimes decreasing 4.6 percent while arrests for property index crimes decreased 9.4 percent. The total clearance rate for reported index crimes remained at 11.5 percent, the second lowest level on record. Statewide data are broken down by county.
