This publication describes the Regional Community Policing Institute (RCPI) network as a whole and the programs of the various State and regional RCPIs.
Abstract
The RCPI network is the only one of its kind to bring high-quality training to both law enforcement agencies and community members. The network is accelerating the growth and quality of community policing as a law enforcement management philosophy. It is based in a partnership of law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit community groups. The RCPIs develop curricula, community policing training, and technical assistance opportunities for law enforcement officers and community members. To date, the network has trained approximately 340,000 officers, community members, and government leaders in the concepts and practices of community policing. There are currently 27 RCPIs. This publication describes the programs of each of these RCPIs, with separate sections provided to describe outreach services, sample courses, and partner organizations. Examples of training offered are "Developing Community Groups for Homeland Security," "Homeland Security Begins on Your Block," "State and Local Anti-Terrorism Training," "Citizen Police Academy," "COPS in Schools," "Domestic Violence Awareness," and "Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design."
