Abstract
In an attempt to assist new police officers graduating from the Red Rocks Community College Law Enforcement Academy in building a successful law enforcement career, Chief Garner from the Fort Lupton, Colorado Police Department gives several words of wisdom from his 36 years on the police force. He suggests to the new police graduates that for officers to survive on the job they need not take themselves too seriously. He suggests identifying someone they can talk to about their worries and fears and trusting the decisions of their supervisors until proven otherwise. He suggests accepting that people will seek them out for their opinions, and lastly, he suggests that an officer realize that they are truly part of a cause.
