Until recently, there was only one 20-year-old computer in the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, which was used exclusively for tax records. The Wayne Country Sheriff's Office is now the proud owner of 14 laptop and personal computers, as well as two 4X4 trucks, and a number of night-vision goggles thanks to the 1033 Program of RULETC, which makes excess U.S. Department of Defense property and equipment available to law enforcement agencies. The computers have increased efficiency and have allowed access to the Kentucky Incident Based Reporting System, a statewide network that collects information on uniform crime reports from Kentucky law enforcement agencies. The computers have also enabled officers to track crime data using global position systems (GPS), which has helped in the fight against the cultivation of marijuana, a significant problem in this rural area. Wayne County officers have also benefited from training on RULETC's mobile interactive, judgmental shooting simulator with a laser-guided shootback feature, which helps officers practice their use-of-force judgment and shooting skills.
