This CD-ROM contains the full content of publications, research projects and studies, surveys, articles, program models, reports, as well as Web resource access in five specific areas related to gang crime and supported predominantly by U.S. Department of Justice agencies. First, a toolkit of resources for law enforcement specifically addressing types of crimes that gangs commit is provided; crimes such as bullying, cruising, disorderly youth in public places, drug dealing in open-air markets, gang reference card for parents in English, Spanish, Hong and Vietnamese, graffiti, gun violence, street racing, and street prostitution are examined. Secondly, responses by law enforcement to address gang crime from across the country are provided highlighting a model for problem solving, a practical guide to addressing gang problems, specific State and local gang prevention and intervention programs, data-based guidelines for gang intervention and control, and a guide to assessing a community’s youth gang problem. Thirdly, material is provided on gang activity in specific populations such as urban and rural areas, Indian country, and Vietnamese-American youth. The fourth area provides research studies and projects on the criminal behavior of gangs with research spanning the years 1995 to 2003. The fifth and final area entails statistical and research studies conducted on gangs, including the 2005 National Gang Assessment, an evaluation of the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program, gang structures, patterns and police responses, the 1999 National Youth Gang Survey, and the growth of youth gang problems in the United States from 1970-1998.
