This report presents statistics on crime reported to or detected by New South Wales Police from January 2003 to December 2005.
Abstract
The report includes an overview of trends in the most recent 2-year period for a selection of serious offense categories. This overview shows that 1 of the 16 major offense categories, malicious damage to property, has been increasing (8.1-percent increase), while robbery with a firearm and 6 other property offense categories had significant declines. The property offenses that declined included break and enter for residences and nonresidences, motor vehicle theft, theft from motor vehicles, theft from a house, and theft from a person. Property crime has generally continued the decline observed since 2002. Offenses whose numbers have remained relatively stable over the report period are murder, assault, sexual assault, indecent assault, robbery without a weapon, robbery with a weapon other than a firearm, theft from a retail store, and fraud. Following this overview, a section presents the monthly data on all categories of offenses. This is followed by a section that provides monthly data on alleged offenders charged by the type of process pursued. A section then presents the number and proportion of cleared cases for selected offense types for 2003, 2004, and 2005. The final section of the report presents 35 data tables, 1 for each major offense category. Each table gives the number and rates for the offense for each New South Wales statistical division. Appended offenses included in the classification, maps, and local government areas in statistical divisions
