This report provides a statistical overview of juvenile court dispositions in the State of Pennsylvania for the year 2004 as collected by the juvenile probation departments across the State.
Abstract
Summary highlights from the 2004 Pennsylvania Juvenile Court Disposition report include: (1) a 6.1-percent increase in delinquency dispositions (N=43,533); (2) probation continues to be the most frequently used disposition; (3) delinquency placements to private institutions comprised 32.1 percent of the 7,012 total delinquency placements in 2004, approximately double the frequency of commitments to group homes (13.7 percent) and wilderness-based placements (9.7 percent); (4) the majority of the 43,533 delinquency dispositions involved White youth (59.2 percent) followed by African-American (37.9 percent) and Asian youth (0.8 percent); and (5) 33,602 of the delinquency dispositions involving males, 51.4 percent were White Non-Hispanic and 33.6 percent were African-American Non-Hispanic. The report includes information on delinquency dispositions, delinquency placements, delinquency offenses, detention, dispositions and demographics (i.e. gender, age, race, and educational status), dependency dispositions, dispositions and placement reviews and summary of all dispositional activity.
