This paper describes a simple nondestructive technique, sequence of strokes, that is based on the phenomenon of the seepage of the fluid ink of a felt-tipped marker in the paper fibers underneath the preexisting ballpoint pen strokes.
Abstract
The phenomenon of the lateral seepage of the fluid ink of the felt-tipped marker strokes beneath the grooves of the preexisting ballpoint pen strokes can establish the sequence of strokes. This phenomenon can be investigated to determine the sequence of felt-tipped marker strokes with other types of writing instruments and impressions. The ink of the felt-tipped marker should be fluid enough to seep out on the reverse of the paper. However, the thickness and quality of the paper are other controlling factors. An examination of the reverse side of a paper sometimes provides valuable and conclusive evidence. Utilizing a case report, this paper describes the phenomenon of the seepage of felt-tipped marker ink underneath the intersecting ballpoint pen strokes. References
