This annual report highlights activities and accomplishments by the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department for the year 2005.
Abstract
The 2005 highlights for the Texas, Harris County Juvenile Probation Department included: (1) more than 100 Juvenile Probation Department employees volunteered for around the clock staffing of the Houston Astrodome to provide security, distribute clothing, and serve food to evacuees from Louisiana, victims of Hurricane Katrina; (2) statements were prepared for the time capsule to be encased in the newly renovated Juvenile Justice Center, located downtown; (3) the sending of monthly care packages to 6 different army platoons stationed in either Iraq or Afghanistan; (4) welcoming the return of several serviceman and servicewomen from overseas deployment; (5) 10 youth began a new phase of the YouthBuild program in February where they attended GED classes and vocational classes; and (6) 64 graduates were honored for the first graduation in December of 2005. Additional activities and accomplishments are presented in the areas of intake screening, the Triad Prevention Program, Pre-adjudication Institution Divisions, Probation Services Division, Residential Facilities and Related Services Division, Community Development Division, Budget and Information Technology Division, Human Resources Division, Educational Services Division, and Crossroads: Community Partnership for Youth, Inc.
