This article describes the Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Task Force Training (MCTFT) Program, which provides unique, tuition-free, state-of-the-art training in all aspects of counterdrug law enforcement and training support for community antidrug coalitions.
Abstract
In November 2002, MCTFT added online courses. Called e-Drug Training, the online effort began with 2 courses and has since expanded to 13 courses. Course topics include drug identification, criminal street gangs, introduction to clandestine laboratory investigation, and airport narcotics investigations. All courses have a common delivery method designed to meet the training needs of the law enforcement officer. Each online course is interactive, student-centered, and noncredit, with a final test used to measure mastery of the material. Each course is designed to have major learning outcomes and objectives included in the introduction; training modules that include text, graphics, audio, and video; interactive learning modules; resources; glossary; and an evaluation survey. A discussion forum enables students to share information with other students regarding issues in their own jurisdictions. The prospective student applies online on the e-Drug training site and must receive verification of employment through a secure online application system. MCTFT entered into a partnership with D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) to help the organization develop two online courses to support its new training program for D.A.R.E. officers. As of February 1, 2006, the D.A.R.E. America online program database showed that 8,257 D.A.R.E. officers had completed the courses.
