Annotation
This CD-ROM provides an overview of the Global Justice XML (Extensible Markup Language) Data Model (Global JXDM), which enables multiple agencies to exchange data from their separate information systems through a common vocabulary that does not require any modification of or loss of control over individual agency information systems.
Abstract
The CD-ROM is divided into two major sections. The first section is an audiovisual presentation that explains XML's history and future application for the criminal justice community. This section includes a hypothetical example of how a patrol officer in the field uses his mobile data computer to obtain information from multiple databases across jurisdictions on the criminal background of a driver he has stopped in his jurisdiction. The officer in turn can use his mobile data computer to send information on the incident to relevant XML databases so their information on the individual is updated. The second major section of the CD-ROM provides a variety of information on the XML (Global JXDM) data model's technology and its implementation. The information provided includes its history, various implementations and examples of applications, compliance guidelines, tools needed for its use, technical documentation, and a schedule and description of training and events. A list of new Web links is provided, along with the Global JXDM User Guide.
