This article describes an intelligent emergency network-based 911 system based on Internet protocol (IP).
Abstract
The 911 emergency call system in the United States is the best in the world, yet the technology exists to enhance this system by creating an intelligent emergency network-based 911 system. The system would be a secure emergency services delivery platform based on IP and designed to meet the standards of the current 911 system. It would have the capability to deliver pertinent information to the right law enforcement personnel at the right time. The system would work by taking the 911 call and collecting the address of the problem. The address would be scrutinized by the system and would immediately alert law enforcement about the type of location and residents. Any information picked up in the field could be fed back into the system so that other responding law enforcement officers could have all pertinent information at the time of the response. Creating this multi-capable 911 infrastructure to serve as an information hub, providing officers with real time information about an unfolding scene has the potential to greatly increase the public’s safety.
