This is a report on the highlights of the achievements of the Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) of each of 42 States and the District of Columbia for the fiscal year October 1, 2005-September 30, 2006. with the aim of showing how the SAC's statistical and analytical capabilities can contribute to more informed and rational decisions by State government officials.
Abstract
The aim of this report is to show how the SAC's statistical and analytical capabilities can contribute to more informed and rational decisions by State government officials. SAC's are State agencies that have the authority and mandated functions to collect and analyze statewide data on crime and criminal justice operations throughout the State. This gives SACs a distinctive ability to show trends in crime and criminal justice operations that can help criminal justice agencies and personnel identify problem areas and determine whether existing policies and practices are having their intended effect. This, in turn, impacts policymaking and its implementation. The descriptions of SAC achievements are accompanied by accounts of how the achievements have enhanced the work of various criminal justice agencies in the State.
