This CD-ROM was developed as an educational tool for criminal justice professionals and educators to provide comprehensive and interactive information on the deadly consequences of methamphetamine use and the dangers of meth-labs.
Abstract
Methamphetamine has become a national epidemic and a national problem that all, both adults and children must become more aware. In a collaborative effort, this CD-ROM provides comprehensive information, through several means, on the dangers of methamphetamine use or meth-use and meth-labs. The CD-ROM offers easy access to information through a point and click design. The CD-ROM is intended to target a wide and varied audience, from criminal justice agencies (law enforcement and courts) to students from kindergarten through high school. It is an interactive educational tool, offering a poster contest reflecting the dangers of meth-use portrayed by children; the anti-meth games which include: meth danger game, meth matching game and awareness tic-tac-toe; a video on eight things one can do to reduce the risk of meth-use; and a movie dramatization, created by a high school in Tennessee, on a residential meth-lab operated by the parents of two young children and the events that unfolded (children removed from the home by Child Protective Services, parents arrested, hazardous crew brought in to handle danger chemical removal, and the court appearance by the parents and eventual incarceration). Five specific areas are laid out offering pertinent information on meth-use and meth-labs which include meth facts, medical impact, testimonials, meth lies, and financial impact. Additional areas of information include an overview of meth-use, an awareness of the dangers of meth, a resource listing, and a powerful 7-minute true story from a meth-user.
