This report presents statistical descriptions of all individuals sentenced in 2005 to correctional institutions administered by the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department.
Abstract
In 2005, there were 25,523 admissions to Hong Kong correctional institutions; 23,199 (90.9 percent) were sentenced to prisons, 1,698 (6.7 percent) to drug addiction treatment centers, 135 (0.5 percent) to training centers, 258 (1 percent) to a detention center, and 233 (0.9 percent) to a rehabilitation center. The first section of the report provides an overview of the demographic, socioeconomic, and criminal characteristics of the sentenced individuals. The second section presents key statistics on sentenced persons by correctional program. The third section contains detailed statistics on drug addicts; and the final section presents selected comparative statistics for 2004 and 2005. Charts show the historical trend in inmate admissions and inmate characteristics over the past 20 years. Two appendixes describe various types of correctional programs and classification of offenses. 6 charts and 33 tables
