This annual report of the Ministry of Justice, New Zealand, recounts the achievements and work of the Ministry for the 12 month period from July 2005 to June 2006.
Abstract
The three parts of the report present: (1) the progress and achievements of the Ministry; (2) service performance and financial summary information; and (3) the structure and service of the Ministry. The preface explores the context in which the Ministry works and underscores the importance of collaboration between the agencies that comprise the justice sector. The preface also outlines government priorities and presents an overview of the justice sector. Part 1 of the report focuses on the role of the Ministry, performance highlights, and the implementation of the Ministry’s Strategic Plan. The key initiatives and activities undertaken during the fiscal year are reviewed along with the work that has been done toward building the Ministry’s capabilities in human resources, information technology, and property and facilities management. The Strategic Plan 2005-2010 organizes the major initiatives to be undertaken into four themes, which drive the work of the Ministry: (1) putting service first; (2) ensuring simple, connected processes; (3) building knowledge and expertise; and (4) enhancing sector collaboration. Part 2 presents an analysis of the performance of the Ministry in comparison to the outputs set out in the 2005/2006 Statement of Intent. The various services provided by the Ministry are described along with a financial summary and a statement of the accounting policies for the year ending June 30, 2006. Part 3 provides information about the Ministry’s leadership, governance, and structure. The services delivered during the fiscal year are reviewed along with human resources information.
