This report presents the fiscal year 2005-2006 annual report of the Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) of Queensland, Australia.
Abstract
The major accomplishments of the CMC during fiscal year 2005-2006 fell into four categories: (1) fighting major crime; (2) reducing misconduct and improving integrity; (3) engaging in public policy; and (4) protecting witnesses. As a result of 20 CMC investigations during the course of the fiscal year, 49 people were charged with 316 offenses. The CMC also reviewed the progress of the implementation of reforms to the child protection system and surveyed all the States and territories of Australia regarding their adult entertainment regulations. The CMC protected 136 people in 70 operations and conducted 61 threat assessments during fiscal year 2005-2006. A review of the CMC budget indicates that the CMC had an operating deficit of $0.586 million for fiscal year 2005-2006, due mainly to an accounting policy change. The CMC’s special powers and limitations are discussed along with the corporate governance structure of the CMC. The resource management practices and structures of the CMC are described, which focus on providing the best working environment possible for its staff. Workforce management planning is discussed along with the Work, Family, Life Balance Program, which allows for flexibility in employee scheduling and leave. Departures and appointments to the CMC are identified and the work of Operations Support is enumerated, which coordinates the activities of police working with the CMC. Tables, figures, appendixes
