This DVD describes the work of the various components of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI's) National Security Branch (NSB), with attention to its interaction with other Federal agencies and local and State law enforcement agencies.
Abstract
The NSB is organized into four components: the Counterterrorism Division, the Counterintelligence Division, the Directorate of Intelligence, and the WMD Directorate. All of these components recognize that their work depends on the observation, training, and reporting of local and State law enforcement personnel who may encounter individuals and circumstances that pose threats to national security. The NSB's Counterterrorism Division has established partnerships with local and State law enforcement agencies designed to facilitate communications relevant to the prevention, disruption, and defeat of terrorist operations through arrest, prosecution, and crisis management. Part of this effort is the creation of Joint Terrorism Task Forces, which are multidisciplinary, multiagency teams that focus on specific terrorism investigations. The Counterterrorism Division partners with local and State law enforcement agencies and nongovernmental entities in conducting criminal and intelligence investigations that involve various types of threats to citizens and critical national assets. The Directorate of Intelligence integrates intelligence from local and State sources through a variety of formats and methods. The WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) Directorate addresses the most serious threat posed by terrorist groups, as it is committed to preventing, interdicting, and disrupting the stated intent of terrorists to gain access to various types of weapons that are capable of killing masses of people in one attack. In addition to narration and charts, information on the work of the NSB is presented through personnel involved in NSB operations.
