The most commonly identified experiences of sexual abuse were fondling and having the sibling’s genitals rubbed on the subject’s body. Over two out of three female participants reported vaginal intercourse and oral sex. A full 68.3 percent of participants reported that some form of coercion, threat, or bribery was used to gain compliance. More than half of the participants reported having sexual experiences with other family members and with adults or children outside of the family. Only 19.5 percent of participants disclosed the sexual abuse to others at the time it was occurring. The findings suggest that sibling incest may serve as a gateway for other types of childhood sexual abuse. A convenience sample of 41 adults was recruited via flyers, newspaper advertisements, and word of mouth to participate in semi-structured interviews about their current functioning, incest experience, and family functioning during the time of incest. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Future research should focus on differences between male and female experiences of sibling incest. Tables, notes, references, appendix
