Abstract
The Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Florida offers traditional and distance-learning graduate educational opportunities to information security professionals and those interested in pursuing careers in information security. In addition, NSU faculty and students are pursuing a variety of research efforts in information security which is addressing the current and emerging problems in securing critical information infrastructures. These are traditional and distance-learning graduate educational opportunities for information security professionals and those interested in this critical field. Over the next few years, NSU will endeavor to insure that educational programs in information security continue to meet the highest standards for academic-based security education. NSU will be instituting an undergraduate degree program in information security in the next few years which will provide a comprehensive educational foundation for future information security professionals. As recently as several years ago, information security education and research played a relatively insignificant role in most computer science and information technology programs. However, with the rapidly increasing need for effective security products and services and the need for additional qualified information security professionals to manage them, the importance of focused security programs in academia is greater than ever. In the past few years, NSU has embarked on a series of academic initiatives in information security. This article describes these academic initiatives in information security at NSU, as well as future initiatives. Tables, figure, and notes
