Abstract: Created by the fiscal year 2001 Consolidated Appropriations Act, the Indian Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program (IASAP) supports American Indian and Alaska Native communities on the planning and implementation of system-wide strategies to reduce and control crime associated with alcohol and drug abuse. The program was initiated by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) in 2002. To date, 57 tribes representing 19 States have received 63 Federal grant awards. Over the past 4 years, the IASAP delivered more than 49 training events with more than 1,600 justice personnel attending these events. The menu of training courses fall under the areas of national training conferences, treatment, law enforcement and courts, and grantee-hosted regional training topics.
