Abstract
The analysis of the entry-level Deputy Marshal job in California was accomplished with the input and cooperation of hundreds of entry-level Deputy Marshals and their supervisors. The information was merged with criteria developed for identifying core tasks, the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) was able to obtain an objective picture of the Deputy Marshall job. The job analysis identified 260 tasks as core tasks for Deputy Marshals. Of these 260 core tasks, 133 are also core tasks for Patrol Officers. Between the two jobs, there is considerable overlap, but there are also important differences. From these results, implications can be drawn that will be used for the purpose of establishing appropriate basic training for Deputy Marshal. This research project was designed to provide the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and the various offices with a comprehensive job analysis database for the position of Marshal/Deputy Marshal. The database describes the entry-level position and will be used to improve the job-relatedness of POST-required training. Appendixes A-D
