Abstract
In an attempt to provide guidance to law enforcement agencies in facing the challenges of youth violence and gang crime, the U.S. Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Service (COPS), developed a toolkit. The toolkit or resource package consists of several publications, as well as a resource CD-ROM on gang involvement. Eight of the publications are part of the COPS Problem-Oriented Guides for Police, Problem-Specific Guides Series and cover the areas of gun violence among serious young offenders, juvenile runaways, bomb threats in schools, drug dealing in open-air markets, underage drinking, bullying in schools, graffiti, and disorderly youth in public places. In addition, the publication, Addressing School-Related Crime and Disorder: Lessons from School-Based Problem-Solving Projects and Street Gangs and Interventions: Innovative Problem Solving with Network Analysis, under the COPS Innovations series is included in the resource package. Lastly, a resource CD-ROM is included on solutions for law enforcement to address gang crime.
