This 2006 Uniform Crime Report for Maryland provides statistics on crime (State, county, municipality, and by reporting agency), clearance rates, arrests, law enforcement officers killed or assaulted, and law enforcement employee data.
Abstract
For 2006, there were 233,590 crimes reported to Maryland law enforcement agencies, a 2-percent decrease compared to 2005. Violent crime (murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) decreased 3 percent. The property crimes of breaking or entering, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft decreased 2 percent. The total number of arrests for 2006 were 305,675, a 1-percent decrease from 2005. Of these arrests, 255,115 involved adults (a decrease of 1 percent), and 50,560 involved juveniles (an increase of less than 1 percent). Of the total number of arrests, there were 56,728 persons arrested for drug abuse violations, a 7-percent increase. A total of 24,078 persons were arrested for driving while intoxicated, a 2-percent increase. Three law enforcement officers died in the line of duty during 2006, and 4,177 officers were assaulted, an increase of less than 1 percent. In 2006, there were 15,048 full-time law enforcement officers employed in Maryland, an increase of less than 1 percent from 2005.
