The purpose of the CVR program is to assist eligible crime victims with medical expenses, mental health counseling, loss of wages, funeral bills in cases of homicide, residential crime-scene clean-up, loss of earning power, and other expenses directly related to their victimization. Loss of property, pain and suffering, and expenses not directly related to the crime are not covered. Awards are reduced by any collateral sources of financial help, including insurance, sick-leave pay, workers' compensation, etc. A maximum of $10,000 may be awarded. The Nebraska Crime Commission administers the CVR program. This report describes the procedures for processing claims and lists the reasons why a claim may be denied. The appeals process and funding sources are also described. The number of claims received and total amount awarded are presented for 1979-85 and 1985-1988, as well as for each of the fiscal years from 1988 through 2005. For fiscal year 2005, 57 claims were received, and $89,488 was awarded to victims. This report also describes outreach activities and the provisions of relevant 2006 State legislative initiatives. Other data show the details of fiscal 2005 claim actions, including the number of claims awarded, claims denied, claims withdrawn, and claims not eligible for an award, as well as number of claims pending as of June 30, 2006. Data show the breakdown of awards by type of victim service covered and type of crime, as well as victim's age and employment status.
