Abstract
The national Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program is a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The program provides resources for local and State law enforcement agencies to develop a program for community members who wish to volunteer their time and skills with a law enforcement agency. Since its inception in 2002, the VIPS program has grown to over 1,560 local programs with over 100,000 volunteers in all 50 States and the District of Columbia. The DVD presents interviews with members of the Denver Police Department which received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for their VIPS program. The DVD highlights the resources available from BJA for use by law enforcement agencies. These resources include toolkits, building blocks, and a Web site for starting or enhancing a program.
