This newsletter provides select information from the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI) on training courses held August 28 to October 5, 2006.
Abstract
The United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders’ (UNAFEI) 134th International Training Course on “Challenges in the Investigation, Prosecution and Trial of Transnational Organized Crime” was held in 2006. The course comprehensively examined the challenges in the investigation, prosecution and trial of transnational crime through a comparative analysis of the current situation. The newsletter provides an outline of the training course rationale, course summary, lecture topics, individual presentations topics representing more than 10 countries, group workshop sessions and summaries, observation visits, group study tour special events, and resources distributed. In July of 2006, the First Country Specific Training Course on the Revitalization of the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) volunteer Probation Aides System for the Philippines was held. Training participants from the Philippines PPA are listed. Information on forthcoming training programs for 2006-2007 are listed and include: the 7th Training Course on the Juvenile Delinquent Treatment System for Kenyan Criminal Justice Officials, the 9th International Training Course on Corruption Control in Criminal Justice and the UNAFEI 135th International Senior Seminar entitled “Promoting Public Safety and Controlling Recidivism Using Effective Interventions with Offenders: An Examination of Best Practices.”
