New advances in emergency preparedness software give first responders a new way to coordinate tactical and rescue situations. It saves time and lives by allowing responders to prepare for dangerous situations before it is too late. With new mapping technologies, first responders have a better view of the rescue scene. School districts can map and photograph all school sites and load the information into a software program in order to provide detailed site-specific maps. This tool is designed to help coordinate responses, but also to enable agencies to determine their approach before an emergency situation occurs. In an emergency situation, first responders would be able to see all the floor plans. In regards to hazmat situations, mapping software allows first responders to quickly identify which direction to evacuate and how wide of an area to evacuate. Several manufacturers that provide technological advances for mapping the scene for first responders are presented.
