This article discusses the features of carrying-cases for laptop computers that can protect them from jolts, shock, vibration, water, heat, and moisture.
Abstract
These adverse conditions could possibly damage a computer's hard drive and the data on it or the computer's LCD. Law enforcement officers are particularly at risk of having their laptops damaged because of the threatening conditions they face in the field. Reed Berry, sales and marketing coordinator for T.Z. Case, classifies computer cases as "good," "better," and "best" based on their construction. He rates panel-type cases as "good," they are constructed with an aluminum frame with aluminum or PVC panels. A "better" case consists of molded aluminum that is more durable than panel-type construction. The "best" cases are made of molded polypropylene, which makes them extremely durable, resistant to scratches, and waterproof. A good computer case for law enforcement work is hard-sided, lockable, airtight, and waterproof. Each law enforcement agency must determine the features it requires for its laptop cases based on how and where the laptops will be used and any additional equipment that may be carried in the case. This article contains a supplement that describes the features of computer cases manufactured by various companies.
