The article discusses the importance of staff meetings because it’s an opportunity for all of the supervisors to be together in the same room--communicating, problem solving, and striving towards the goals of the department. Prior to Hanover Park’s Police Department implementing suggestions from CompStat, staff meetings were tedious. The department decided to take some elements of the CompStat philosophy, and tools that the department was currently using to create a new format for the staff meetings. The new format was called the “staff presentation.” The 10-minute presentations by each supervisor were on subjects such as response to action plans, problems or crime trends, problems the shifts were experiencing, and outstanding performances. Through the staff meetings the identification of problems and implementation of action plans helped to pinpoint where officers needed to be, and the reduction of crimes occurred as a result.
