"Generation next" has been raised in an environment where communication, stimulation, challenges, entertainment, social contexts, and problemsolving occur with tools and interactions based in evolving technologies. These technologies emphasize making various tasks easier, more challenging, and more interesting, while requiring the acquisition of new knowledge and skills in the use of the technology. An important part of this new age of stimulating technology is video gaming, through which players are challenged to win rewards and achieve success through trial and error, analysis of alternatives, and systematic efforts to reach goals. This article describes the activities of video gaming as consisting of "probing" and "telescoping." "Probing" involves exploring the virtual world of the video game in searching for hidden pathways, taking action, assessing reactions, and adapting responses to achieve desired results. "Telescoping" is the management of the game in order to maintain a focus on the ultimate goal and immediate objectives that contribute to achieving the ultimate goal of winning the game. The article advises police managers to consider a number of ways to take advantage of the environment that has shaped and stimulated the interests, behaviors, and goals of "generation next." Police work is increasingly using technology to collect, analyze, and make decisions ("probing") in order to achieve objectives that serve the goal of public safety ("telescoping").
