The use of YouTube is discussed as another technological tool for law enforcement to further the mission of law enforcement and reach the community.
Abstract
The Google-owned Web site YouTube (www.youtube.com) has grown astronomically popular throughout the world, the Web world. The site allows any user the ability to upload videos deemed worthy for the others to view, worldwide. Millions of people tune in to the Web site everyday. Examples of videos include political debates, celebrities, and viewers opinions and feelings about a reality television show. Acting as another tool for law enforcement, the popularity and accessibility of YouTube can be adapted to attract leads from fellow law enforcement officers and tips from the community or viewers to open the communication between public safety and its public. Each successful message sent to the public brings its own marketing capability. This article discusses the potential capabilities of YouTube as a new technologically effective tool in law enforcement’s fight against crime.
