As indicated in the 10-year prison population projection simulation model, the end of FY 2008 total prison population should reach 9,015 including 8,344 males and 671 females. By the end of FY 2017, the male prison population is expected to reach 8,592. The total projected prison beds needed, by the end of FY 2017, will include 225 unclassified beds, 2,996 minimum beds, 2,604 medium low beds, 1,535 medium high beds, 1,028 maximum beds and 863 special management beds. Over the 10-year forecast period, minimum custody beds will decrease by 63 beds, medium low custody bed needs will decrease by 34 beds, medium high bed needs will increase by 97 beds, maximum bed needs will increase by 92 beds, and the need for special management beds will decrease by 168 beds. Unclassified bed needs will decrease by 24 beds.
