  Annotation: This report, "How OJJDP is Improving Outcomes for the Nation's Youth", presents activities and accomplishments of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) in the enhancement of the welfare and future of the Nation’s youth for fiscal year 2006 and 2007.
  Abstract: Key accomplishments for the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) in fiscal year 2006 and 2007 included: playing a key role in two initiatives to rid communities of gangs and combat the online exploitation of children; investing in research and providing training and technical assistance on critical issues identified by practitioners, such as female juvenile offending and disproportionate minority contact; and revamping OJJDP programs serving tribal youth. OJJDP has and continues to work in partnership and collaboration with faith-based and community organizations to help children and their families, and has streamlined training and technical assistance programs to ensure funded programs are successful. Highlights of major accomplishments include: (1) electronic mapping-the SMART System; (2) national conference; (3) Project Safe Childhood; (4) Comprehensive Anti-Gang Initiative; and (5) performance measures. Highlights of programs established to strengthen the juvenile justice system through the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act include: Formula Grants Program, Juvenile Accountability Block Grants Program, and Title V Community Prevention Grants Program. Highlights of initiatives established to protect America’s Children include: Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces, National Center for Mission and Exploited Children, AMBER Alert, and Safe Start initiative. Available resources through OJJDP are presented and listed to assist Federal, State, and local agencies in staying informed. Appendixes
