The commission reviews areas of the law referred to it by the Attorney General. During the current reporting period, the commission undertook work on the Guardianship Review, a review of the Peace and Good Behaviour Act 1982, and the Uniform Succession Laws Project. These reviews are discussed in detail in this report. The Guardianship Review is being conducted in two stages. Stage One involved reviewing the confidentiality provisions of the guardianship legislation. In Stage Two, the Commission will review the guardianship legislation more generally by examining the law relating to decisions about personal, financial, and health matters under the Guardianship and Administration Act 2000 and the Powers of Attorney Act 1998. The Commission has completed its final report for Stage One. Its recommendations are presented in this report. The Commission’s review of the Peace and Good Behaviour Act 1982 is focusing on its effectiveness in protecting the community from breaches of the peace. During the 2006-07 reporting period, the Commission has made substantial progress toward completing the final report, with completion anticipated in December 2007. The Commission continues to lead the Uniform Succession Laws Project with a view toward harmonizing the succession laws of the Australian States and Territories.
