The results indicated that there were acceptable levels of internal consistency for the SCS, and acceptable levels of construct and criterion-related validity. The study states that because out-of-control sexual behavior has been thought to present the potential for serious negative consequences, prior research has attempted to develop tools to assess and/or diagnose the phenomenon. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of the SCS and its relations with sexual behaviors and their associated outcomes. The SCS was designed to measure two aspects of sexuality: hypersexuality and sexual preoccupation. It was suggested that forward stepwise logistic regression analyses indicated that the SCS was also capable of predicting negative outcomes and unprotected sexual intercourse.
