This article briefly examines the effective management by law enforcement in the investigation of missing persons.
Abstract
Missing persons’ cases present extraordinary circumstances that must be addressed in a timely and professional manner in order to preserve the evidence and information necessary to move forward with prosecution for homicide if the case evolves into that. Police officers must treat these cases with great attention, firm resolve, and exemplary organization skills to ensure a professional and proper investigation and proactive planning. A structured framework for organization with trained resources, robust leadership that communicates a clear mission, and focus with aggressive implementation of investigative teams will improve the opportunity for the desired results in the responsibility inherited by law enforcement in the investigation of missing persons.
