Compiled by New York State's Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) with information provided by nine State criminal justice agencies, this report presents data on system indicators and performance measurement for State criminal justice practice activities in 2007.
Abstract
Data are also provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the New York/New Jersey High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, and local police and law enforcement agencies throughout the State. Most of the reported data were provided to DCJS through the monthly Crimestat process. Crimestat is the performance management system for New York State criminal justice agencies and initiatives. An overview of crime in New York State shows index crime rates for 2006 compared to the total for the Nation and a few other States, and the percent change in the State's crime rate since 1990 is noted for index offenses. The report's section on "Enforcement" presents data for specific enforcement programs as well as general enforcement. Topics address Operation IMPACT, specialized State Police Services, traffic safety, DNA Databank and Collection, eJusticeNY, and law enforcement support services. The report's section on "Managing Offenders" presents data on criminal justice population trends (local jails, probation, State prison, and parolees); management through technology; arrest and fingerprint processing; jail management and oversight; prison management; offender reentry; sex offender management; and criminal alien improvements. The report concludes with the presentation of data on the following areas of "Public Safety and Services:" child safety, victim's compensation and restitution, reduction in domestic violence, and information for victims and the public. Extensive tabular and graphic data
