The focus of this study was to validate the Impulsive/Premeditated Aggression Scale (IPAS) in a college sample for future use in characterizing aggressive behavior among male and female college students.
Abstract
Study findings validate the use of IPAS in a nonclinical sample of college students. The findings support factors of impulsive (IA) and premeditated (PM) aggressive functions, and the factors are consistent across men and women. Impulsive and premeditated aggression reflects functions of aggressive behavior that may have differential correlates and clinical utility. Recently researchers have begun to acknowledge the prevalence of aggressive behaviors exhibited by college students. The purpose of this study was to extend the use of the IPAS for characterizing aggression in a college student sample. Three hundred and forty students completed the IPAS, Aggression Questionnaire, and measures of childhood maltreatment and negative life events. Tables and references
