This issue of the Survey of Judicial Salaries reports salary changes as of January 1, 2008.
Abstract
This issue contains annual salary growth rates which are shown in charts, covering the 50 States and the District of Columbia. The annual percentage change in real-dollar salaries is shown for associate justices of courts of last resort (COLRs), associate judges of intermediate appellate courts (IACs), general-jurisdiction (GJ) trial-court judges, and State court administrators, respectively. The latest 2007 salary data showed that salary changes increased less than was seen in 2006. The average annual increase in 2007 for the four judicial positions was 3.7 percent. The 2007 decrease reflects the general economic malaise felt in the United States over the past year. In addition to the usual tables and graphics provided in the survey, a special section called, "Judicial Retirement Information" contains a multi-page table comparing judicial retirement plans across States.
