The criminal justice administration today requires an extraordinary level of sophistication. Law enforcement agencies across the country encourage personnel to pursue professional degree programs. The Los Angeles County, CA, Sheriff’s Department partnered with the Woodbury University in Burbank, CA and developed the Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership (BOL) program, which helps to develop leadership qualities among Los Angeles County sworn and civilian employees. Participants of the BOL are afforded intellectual and practical training needed to identify and meet executive responsibilities. For entry to the program, candidates must have an associate degree or 75 semester units. Courses in the BOL follow an order designed to identify and develop executive talents preparing students for leadership roles in the public and private sectors. The BOL has proven its worth both to employees of Los Angeles County and the varied groups they serve. The program serves as a model, and criminal justice organizations should consider using similar training programs to define and develop the qualities of their leaders in the complex environment of criminal justice. 1 endnote
